Bermuda to Azores - photos from 1,800 miles at sea

So what do you do while at sea for 2 weeks?  Considering the weird sleep schedules when you're standing watches, (4 hours on, 4 hours off, etc...), a lot of napping.  And a lot of staring at the ocean totally zoned out, still trying to comprehend that we actually managed to leave our comfortable lives after coming up the hair-brained idea to live on a boat several years ago.  The kids, on the other hand, were amazingly productive - see our new page "what we're reading now".  Maggie also made an origami store, hired Hugo to help with sales, and covered the boat in advertising: "Orogomy is great!  I bet you will love orogomy!".  Unfortunately, it was a limited customer base and market saturation and "bank rupsy" soon followed.  Hugo spent a lot of time working on his knots and the next sales experiment was "Boat Bugs Incorporated", which was only slightly longer lived.  My favorite day was one of dead calm (yes, it made for terrible sailing), where the sea turtles all seemed to come up to bask in the sun at the same time.  We saw dozens and marveled at how they survived so far from land.  Fishing yielded two delicious mahi mahi.  Maggie continued her research into fish eyeballs, and observed that the mahi mahi has two "marbles" of the same size in the middle of the eyeball, whereas the flying fish has one big one and one small one.  Also lots of star watching, Scrabble and dolphins.  Next post in a week or so, once we've had a chance to explore the islands a bit more.

  4. Wow! Sounds great, especially knowing that you have missed 90+ degree weather in the concrete jungle. Maggie & Hugo, save me a cool Origami (your pick) for when I see you at Grammy & Grandpa's, they all look awesome! Thanks for the great pictures!
